The Barnes Sewing Room, founded by Carolyn de la Drapiere has been in business for over 15 years, offering expertise in dressmaking to the local area and greater London.
Carolyn’s highly qualified team of dressmakers and seamstresses are skilled and knowledgable in all aspects of bespoke and alteration work, and are experienced in tailoring, fine silk and lace work.
Wedding dresses; mother-of-the-bride and groom outfits; race wear; ball gowns; event wear and day dresses are our speciality, along with tailoring jackets, trousers, suits and coats.
The Studio in Barnes is a treasure trove of sewing goodies – overflowing with beautiful fabrics, clothes samples to try on and buy, buttons, ribbons and trims – it never fails to delight.
With a lovely big spacious room to try on your garments it offers a comfortable and relaxed environment. Having a garment made is always a joy and Carolyn and the dressmaking team always ensure it is a pleasureable experience.

Come and see us armed with a host of pictures and sketch drawings, or even just a vague idea. We will work with you to create a dress or outfit for your special occasion.
Fittings will be needed so a few weeks notice is always good. (Though we have made a wedding dress in 2 days flat – anything is possible!)
Use our fabric or bring your own. We are totally flexible.

Payment plans available for bespoke pieces – pay as you go throughout the making process to spread the cost.

Copying pieces – for Men and Women.
Do you have a dress / jacket / shirt / trousers / coat or evening gown that is wearing a little thin?
Ever fancied having that favourite piece of clothing in another fabric or colour?
Our skilled pattern cutters will copy your item and hey presto – an identical garment will evolve! For complex pieces a toile may be necessary to make.
Prices available at time of consultation. Payment plans offered for bespoke clothes.

The Barnes Sewing Room offers top quality alterations and repairs for the discerning client. Our skilled dressmakers and seamstresses are experts in dealing with both simple repairs to difficult projects and high-end pieces of clothing.
No job is too big or too small. From sewing on a button to altering an evening gown – our seamstresses will happily undertake all work.

Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm
Saturday 10am – 1pm by appointment only.
If you can call before you come to see us that would be helpful as we are sometimes flat-out busy with other clients and their fittings.

Carolyn is a talented designer and dressmaker who has made clothes for Royalty and a huge host of celebs. Her work has featured in many London magazines and newspapers. With her passion for design and dressmaking she brings a creative eye and years of expertise to each new project she undertakes.
Her team are likewise full of passion for their work, they love creating one off pieces for each and every client who commissions a piece. Making people feel fabulous in their clothes is the Sewing Room’s top priority. All shapes, sizes, designs and individual taste is appreciated. Top quality work is always guaranteed.
